During the International Seminar on Mining Rescue and Safety (MIRE 2025), the conversation about workplace safety took center stage once again. The recent tragedy at the El Teniente Mine, which claimed the lives of six workers, not only shook the industry, but also left an inescapable lesson: safety must be an absolute commitment.
Manuel Viera Flores, our CEO and President of the Chilean Mining Chamber, called for reflection, reminding us that “life comes first” cannot remain a slogan, but must become a daily practice in all operations. This principle, so present in Metaproject's culture, guides each of our projects, prioritizing people's well-being over any productive or economic goal.
In his speech, he also highlighted the importance of moving towards planetary mining: a model that integrates productive leadership with unrestricted respect for the environment and communities. This is a concept that we at Metaproject also embrace, promoting innovative solutions that guarantee safe, efficient, and sustainable operations.
The seminar, held in Santiago, paid tribute to the victims of El Teniente and recognized the work of the rescue brigades, an example of commitment and humanity in critical moments.
