On Thursday, July 31, a virtual discussion entitled “The outlook for mining in times of uncertainty and change” was held. The event was organized by the University of Chile MBA Alumni Association and featured the distinguished participation of Manuel Viera Flores, CEO of Metaproject Group, president of the Chilean Chamber of Mining, and a former student of the University of Chile MBA program.
In his role as President of the Chilean Mining Chamber, Manuel Viera analyzed the main factors that are impacting the sector's development, such as the effects of international conflicts on commodity markets, the impact of tariffs, global economic uncertainty, and growing pressure to move toward more sustainable and technologically advanced mining.
Emerging opportunities for Chile and Latin America were also discussed, particularly in relation to critical minerals such as copper and lithium, which are key to the global energy and digital transition.
The event allowed attendees to gain a clearer understanding of the strategic role that the region can play in this changing landscape and to reflect on how to prepare for the new market, regulatory, social, and technological challenges that will shape the future of the industry.
The meeting was valued for its high level of analysis and cross-cutting approach, integrating economics, geopolitics, innovation, and sustainability. This event is part of the commitment of the University of Chile MBA Alumni Association to offer spaces for reflection and continuous updating for its graduates, promoting informed debate and leadership in key sectors for the country's development.
