Innovation and Transparency: A Conversation with Juan Castillo, Technical Manager at Metaproject

At Metaproject Group, the commitment to excellence and innovation remains unwavering. To further reinforce this vision, we sat down with Juan Castillo, our Technical Manager of Engineering, to discuss his insights on the company’s future, technological challenges, and his experience leading key initiatives within the organization.

Over 35 Years of Experience in High-Impact Projects

Mr. Juan Castillo brings more than 35 years of expertise in engineering, manufacturing, assembly, and construction projects. His career spans sectors such as electronics, hydromechanics, petrochemicals, gas, nuclear energy, gold, copper, and nickel mining, as well as water treatment projects. He has held key roles, including Mechanical Engineer, Field Inspector, Piping Discipline Lead, Area Manager for TIE-INs and Plant Shutdowns, among others.

His contributions to landmark projects include electrolytic refineries, copper concentrators, chemical plants, and ion exchange systems, establishing him as a technical authority. Before joining Metaproject, he held prominent positions at companies such as Minera Sierra Gorda, cementing his reputation as a technical leader with strategic vision.

A Challenge with International Scope

Metaproject is in the midst of an expansion, and Juan Castillo views this process as an opportunity to drive improvements and strengthen the company’s foundation in a competitive global market.

“Mr. Manuel [Viera Flores] offered me this position, and it has been a significant challenge. We are working to elevate the company on an international scale. We already have a presence in Peru, an office will open in Mexico, and other projects are underway,” Castillo shared.

The Three Pillars of a Productive Work Environment

According to the Technical Manager, a team’s success relies on three key aspects: technical, financial, and personal. On the technical side, he has identified major challenges and areas for improvement. On the workplace front, he highlights the dedication and cooperation of the team:
“I have encountered people who are willing to move forward and are committed to the company.”

Prioritizing Technological Innovation

“My main goal is to promote technological innovation within the company, focusing on delivering agile, safe, and highly effective solutions to our clients. To achieve this, it is crucial to adopt a global work culture that combines technical efficiency with a transparent and high-quality approach, offering the fastest, most reliable, and most effective solutions in the market. This combination will enable us not only to meet our clients’ current needs but also to exceed their expectations, ensuring a level of excellence that fosters trust and shared success.”

“We approach clients with honesty. It is essential to be upfront about how we can assist them, building trust while staying true to our values, which emphasize globally conscious services.”

Comprehensive Management of Technical Operations

Under Juan Castillo’s leadership, technical management encompasses not only technical oversight, control, and programming (costs, hours, and deliverables) but also inspection and contract management.
“We aim to strengthen key areas, such as engineering contracts, to cover all aspects of a project: procurement, acquisitions, contracts, sales, and more.”

Emerging Technologies and Future Goals

The Technical Manager underscores the importance of staying ahead of technological trends.
“Today, companies use 3D and 4D models, integrating programs with artificial intelligence. This isn’t new—we were already doing it in the 1980s on projects like the Atucha II Nuclear Power Plant. However, now AI is accessible to everyone, thanks to data collected through devices like smartphones,” he explains.

From his perspective, Metaproject has a strategic opportunity to leverage these tools, strengthening its positioning in both national and international markets.

A Vision for a Transformational Future

With his focus on transparency, commitment, and innovation, Juan Castillo is leading a transformative shift within Metaproject, aimed at creating a more sustainable and technologically advanced future. Under his guidance, the company is adopting strategies that drive economic growth while emphasizing social and environmental responsibility—key elements for long-term success.

The development of new technological solutions and the promotion of a culture of global openness and collaboration are positioning Metaproject as a leader in the sector, ready to face future challenges with a more agile and dynamic business model.
