With nearly 33 years of experience, Metaproject Group has established itself as a company committed to developing new talent in the mining and engineering industries. This summer is no exception, and with the start of the internship season, the company welcomes students who are eager to enhance their knowledge through real-world experiences in the sector.
Carol Cornejo Mendoza, a Civil Mining Engineer student at Universidad de Chile, joined Metaproject Group a few weeks ago to undertake her professional internship, an important step in her academic and professional development. During this brief but intense experience, Carol has begun working in the BIM (Building Information Modeling) area, one of the key spaces for implementing advanced technology in engineering projects.
In this innovative environment, she works alongside a team of highly skilled professionals who provide her with all the support necessary for her development. Through this collaboration, Carol is gaining valuable insights that will allow her to strengthen her skills and acquire new abilities, essential for her professional growth in the mining sector.

How has your experience at Metaproject been during your first week?
“It’s been very good. Everyone has been very kind. I’ve received clear answers to my questions and doubts, both regarding the internship and mining, which is my specialty.”
What has been the most challenging aspect so far?
“Currently, I’m designing a mine pit, and the most challenging part has been planning the phases, understanding how it will develop, and learning to use the software for this task.”
What has been the most interesting part for you at this early stage?
“The most interesting thing has been working on a real project and applying my knowledge in a practical context, which motivates me to keep learning.”
Motivations for Choosing Metaproject
What attracted you to Metaproject for your professional internship?
“The leadership in mining planning and project engineering is what caught my attention the most, especially considering the major companies they have worked with.”
How do you feel the company can contribute to your professional development?
“I believe Metaproject will provide me with knowledge focused on real projects, not just academic simulations. Here, the projects have a concrete impact on the mining industry, which is incredibly valuable for my training.”
Expectations and Goals
What do you hope to achieve or learn during your internship at Metaproject?
“I hope to gain solid knowledge in the design and development of mine pits. My goal is to learn everything I need to apply this knowledge in my professional life.”
Workplace Environment Perception
How would you describe the work environment at the company?
“It’s a very welcoming environment. There’s a strong sense of camaraderie; everyone helps each other out, and projects are not exclusive to one person. It’s a very united team.”

“Yes, a lot. They’ve supported and made me feel comfortable from the very beginning. They don’t hide information; on the contrary, they share what they do day by day, which I really like.”
Connection with the Mining Sector
What motivated you to study Civil Mining Engineering?
“I’ve always been curious about mining. Although it’s sometimes seen as an industry with negative impacts, I wanted to understand how it contributes to the country’s development. A large part of Chile’s economy depends on mining, and I wanted to be part of that change and see how mining helps transform projects.”
How do you think this experience at Metaproject will help you achieve your professional goals in the mining sector?
“I believe this experience will be key to specializing in various areas of mining, gaining practical knowledge, and understanding how real projects are carried out that contribute to the country. I’m motivated by seeing how Metaproject works as a team and develops solutions that have a positive impact on the industry.”
